Advanced Information Literacy and Web Page Analysis

Objective: Find, evaluate, and select five appropriate Web information resources, as outlined in the Web Page Evaluation Forms, which answer the following topic question.
Instructions:
1. Select one of the most important people of the past year who made a positive contribution to society.
2. Find Web information pages that answer these points:

  • Why was she/he important, and
  • what were the results of that person's works and deeds, or the things that were changed or affected to make them important?
  • Write the name of the person you researched here. _______________
     
       
      Web pages must be from different Web sites. Once you have used a Web site, it cannot be used again. Please note that you need five different pages, from different types of sources, as follows:
      1. 1. One page only from an informational database (e.g., SIRS, EBSCOHost, Brtiannica Online, DISCovering Biography, etc.) 
      2. 2. One page only from an online newspaper or magazine that is located on the Web (not in SIRS or EBSCOHost) 
      3. 3. Three separate Web pages that are found by searching the Web, all from different Web sites. These may not be from an online news source or a commercial, subscription database.

        All of the sources score 90% or above for criteria met.
        All five of the criteria are addressed for each of the sources.
      Competent
        All of the sources score 80% or above for criteria met.
        All five of the criteria are addressed, but not completely.
      Developing
        One or more of the sources scored below 80% for criteria met.
