REDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
MATHEMATICS

The Mathematics program offers a spectrum of courses to meet the varied levels of ability and skills that our students possess when entering high school. The three-year Mathematics requirement for graduation will present students with a new challenge to succeed in this important area of the curriculum.

The following is a description of the categories of
Mathematics courses listed in the table below:

FOUNDATIONS:
Provides up to two years of mathematical topics and preparation for algebra.
COLLEGE PREP (STANDARD):

Provides four year prerequisites for a university calculus course at state universities or University of California. The Core Plus program is a four year integrated program utilizing mathematics to model real contextual problems with full use of technology. The standard sequence is recommended for science and math majors.
ALTERNATIVE:

Provides a more concrete alternative to the standard sequence courses. These courses meet the requirements for the state university system, but do not satisfy the prerequisite for pre-calculus.
HONORS:

Provides the same preparation as the standard sequence with additional enrichment topics and may lead to advanced placement credit in calculus.

NOTES:

a) At the end of each semester, students may be recommended to other sequences depending on their performance in their current course.

b) Upon completion of Math B, a student will be recommended to Algebra 1, Business Math or an elective named in (c).

c) Accounting may be taken as an elective for one-half math credit (i.e., one year of this course meets one semester of the math requirement for high school graduation).
