REDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
Introduction to Computers

In order to graduate, all students must successfully pass all five parts of the district's Computer Proficiency Test. Introduction to Computers is a one-semester course that covers keyboarding (touch typing), word processing and presentation skills, and spreadsheets, as well as basic computer operations, terminology, and ethics. Students will learn how to design business letters and reports and set up and manage simple databases using Excel spreadsheets. They will get an introduction to PowerPoint and the Internet. This course will expose students to Windows-based computers and a variety of software applications, possibly including Photoshop, Visual Basic, and Dreamweaver. Students will take the district's Computer Proficiency Test during the course. If a student has not passed all five parts of the district's Computer Proficiency Test by the end of the sophomore year, the student will be enrolled in the course during his/her junior year. Students must pass all five parts of the test in order to earn a passing grade for the course (and to graduate).
