REDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL
Introduction to Computers

In order to graduate, all students must successfully pass all five of the Tam District's computer proficiency tests. Introduction to Computers is a one-semester course that covers keyboarding (touch typing), word processing and presentation skills, and spreadsheets, as well as basic computer operations, terminology, and ethics. Students will learn how to design business letters and reports and set up and manage simple databases using Excel spreadsheets. They will obtain considerable PowerPoint skills and will get an introduction to cloud computing on the Internet. This course will expose students to Windows-based computers and a variety of software applications, including Microsoft Office, and possibly including Photoshop and Visual Basic. Students will have numerous chances to take the five district computer proficiency tests during the course, and they must pass all five tests in order to earn a passing grade for the course (and to graduate). Whether through the course or via separate testing-only sessions, students are encouraged to pass the five computer proficiency tests by the end of their sophomore year.
