Robots are now being used in Redwood High Schools Computer
Programming classes. The Programming
1-2 sequence, which is open to students in all grade levels, is using
moveable robots to help students learn how to program and use their new skills
in fun and unique ways. Sign up for Computer Programming now!

Computer Programming
1 is a beginning-level course, which then leads into the second semester,
Programming
2. Students do not need to have any prior computer skills for these one-semester
classes. All that is needed is an interest in computers and a desire to learn
how to make them perform various tasks.

Each robot has several sensors, including tactile, ultrasonic, and audio. The robots,
which can run autonomously, also contain servos that allow the machines to move forward and backward and turn. Students use both graphical
interfaces and programming code to instruct the robots to perform a variety of tasks based on the sensory input.

We use two
kinds of robots: Lego Mindstorms NXT |

Our programming classes are designed to help prepare students for a variety of careers,
including software engineering, coding, game design, and systems analysis. Seven
courses Programming
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and AP Computer Science allow students to spend multiple
semesters studying in the field of programming. Students who want to try out
programming and work with the new robots are encouraged to sign up for Programming
1-2 for the fall and spring semesters.
