Pete Carroll
Pete Carroll graduated from Redwood in 1969. After Redwood he went on to the University
of Pacific for four years. When he finished college in 1973 he went on to be a graduate
assistant of the University of Pacific's football team. This is how he started his coaching
career. He stayed in that position until 1977 when he took a coaching job at Arkansas and in
1978 he moved on to Iowa State. Pete Carroll's movement did not stop there however, the next
year he moved to Ohio State and the following year he went to North Carolina State from
1980-1982. Carroll then returned to the University of Pacific for the 1983 season before
joining the Buffalo Bills of the National Football League. This is where he began his
professional career as the secondary coach for the Bills. After one year Pete Carroll left
Buffalo and joined the Minnesota Vikings as the secondary coach and that is where he stayed
until 1989. In 1990 Carroll took an even higher job as the defensive coordinator of the New
York Jets. In 1994 Carroll became the head coach of the Jets, a job he held for only one year.
He coached the Jets to a 6-10 record. He was fired after the season but was named the
defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers. This job proved Pete Carroll to be a good
coach. He led the 49ers defense to two great years in 1995 and 1996. It was then that the
New England Patriots asked him to be the Head Coach of their football team. He took the job
and is awaiting his second year of being an NFL Head Coach and his first year with the New
England Patriots. This is where he is now.
